On Saturday, January 20th, the GHS theatre department showed their productions of 4 different one act plays.
These plays, varying between 20-60 minutes each, included “Case 1515,” “Happily Ever After,” “A Game.” and a snippet from “Little Women.”
The cast and crew only got about a month and a half from the time they were given their scripts to show night, which proved to be challenging in many ways.
Sophomore Alexis Cottrell was originally on costume crew for the productions, but after some complications with the casting for “A Game,” volunteered to fill in for an actor who could no longer fulfill their role.
“It was a big jump,” Cottrell said, “because I wasn’t very prepared for the shows. I went from being here like ‘Okay I’m just going to be here to make sure the costumes run smoothly to being in it and having to help the play itself run well.’”
Junior Fatima Kamara has been a student director at Gainesville since last year, and even with her extended experience, still struggled with the very short time frame leading up to show night.
“It was just stressful because we weren’t very prepared,” Kamara said, “but it went exactly how I planned.”
Overall, Gainesville’s theatre community put on a great show night for the one act plays, with great relief from the cast and crew.
