On Wednesday, October 9th, all freshmen, sophomores and juniors will take the Preliminary SAT, while seniors are excused from school and will either participate in asynchronous work or the Amazing Race Around DC.
The Preliminary SAT, or PSAT, serves the purpose of preparing students for the relatively high-stake SAT test, which may determine college admissions. Students who perform well on the PSAT may earn scholarships, among other benefits such as becoming familiar with the testing environment, building their confidence and receiving information on what they need to further study.
This year, the PSAT will be taken completely virtually and it is advised that students prepare for the test; not necessarily by studying, but by getting adequate sleep and eating a balanced breakfast in the morning. Being in a comfortable and confidents state of mind is said to be important for successfully completing an exam such as this.
Seniors are not required to take the PSAT or SAT and are exempt from coming into the building on October 9th. Asynchronous work will be given by teachers and expected to be completed if students are not participating in the senior trip. The trip will begin in the morning and students will be picked up from GHS on buses and taken to DC where they will participate in games, sightseeing, and a competitive scavenger hunt. The trip will continue until the afternoon, when students will be bussed back to the school, ending the highly eventful day.
