Many students rely on the school cafeteria for their lunch and often times, the line on both sides takes so long that the lunch bell rings before they’ve had a chance to sit and eat. This has caused students to either be late to their class or go hungry for the remainder of the day. Which not only can affect our bodies but can affect students learning span and cause them to be tired and unable not to focus on the teacher or lesson.
Neither one of these scenarios is desirable and creates unhealthy habits for kids. As we know, lots of kids end up cutting lines and recently, there’s been teachers standing watching trying to prevent it. However, it’s hard to stop big groups of kids who are hungry and don’t listen. Perhaps a solution would be to move items like pre-made sandwiches, fruit and chips or snacks to a grab and go section and students who want hot meals can wait in line. This will cut down on the amount of time students wait in line by offering an alternative.
Another cause is the fact that we have 4 lunch lines in both cafeterias and only 2 of them are being used. They started opening up the 3rd line sometimes, but it still was so packed, and people kept cutting. It also doesn’t help that the lunch staff is so small, there aren’t enough people handing out food and restocking when they must prepare the food in the back and clean dishes. Last year they started giving plastic trays and actual silverware which sometimes isn’t a good idea because kids can get dangerous.
