Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a 2024 dark comedy film directed by Tim Burton with screenplay by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
The film is a sequel to the classic Halloween movie Beetlejuice released in 1998 and features returning stars Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, along with new stars Jenna Ortega, playing Lydia’s daughter Astrid, Justin Theroux as Lydia’s boyfriend/ tv show producer, Monica Bellucci as Betelgeuse’s ex-wife and featured roles with stars Willem Dafoe and even Danny Devito.
The film follows Lydia in her adulthood as she hosts a tv show in which she acts as a medium (spirit communicator) for clients who are faced with threats from the afterlife, while Betelgeuse, her demon stalker, attempts to hunt her down to marry her. Lydia is also mourning the loss of her ex-husband, while trying to patch her relationship with her emotionally distant daughter, who doesn’t believe in ghosts, spirits, or demons.
This film was a hilarious watch, with jokes around every corner and scenes that cross the borders of the initial Beetlejuice franchise. However, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice also had its sentimental moments, with the death of a father, a betrayal, and the broken relationship between a mother and daughter. Tim Burton is truly a genius, tugging heartstrings, bringing laughs and alluding to real-life problems that are relatable and real to the audience.
