A devastating wildfire in Los Angeles County has burned over 15,000 acres since January 26th, including celebrities’ houses such as Jhene Aiko’s, Bella Hadid’s, Leighton Meester’s, and many more. The fire, which started on Sunday, has a containment of 31% as of late Tuesday, with over 1,000 firefighters assigned to the scene, including 34 crews, 7 helicopters, and 114 engines.
The fire has prompted evacuation orders west of I-5 between Pyramid Lake and Gorman, and warnings are in place for areas south of Pyramid Lake between Old Ridge Route and the Los Angeles County line. The National Weather Service warned of wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph, and a red flag warning was issued. This recent wildfire is part of a larger trend of increasingly destructive fires in California, with many experts pointing to climate change as a major contributor. In fact, a recent study found that nearly all the observed increase in burned areas over the past half-century is due to human-caused climate change.
