The hit movie by Illumination, Minions, depicts a perfect representation of how we have always been followers throughout all of history, but does this affect our own individuality?
After the minions found Gru, they conformed to all of his ideas and instructions, throwing away their colorful past with other leaders.
Do we have the same mindset when we find new celebrities to obsess over?
Our world today revolves around people with different skills to offer, but if everyone starts to have the same opinion, not filling these slots in society could be the downfall of our world.
According to Pew Research Center, four out of ten young adults regularly get their news on TikTok, with the number still growing exponentially. Social media platforms have the ability to spread information instantaneously.
With constant input from your favorite celebrities, it’s hard to avoid keeping up with the Kardashians. When highly influential people advertise one political party or the other, it will initiate an explosion in their fanbase.
The younger generation of voters, who may be uneducated, will commit to the popular trend, as algorithms, like TikTok, only show you what you want to see, fact or not. Seeing that one of the responsibilities of being a US citizen is being an informed voter, this aspect of picking a candidate is neglectful and offensive to our citizenship.
Another example is the rise of Andrew Tate’s stardom with (mainly) male youth around the world. In an article from New York Times, these boys would consume so much media from Tate and his anti-feminist ideas without really understanding other reasoning.
At schools, students would only grow the cult-like fanbase even more. This harshly impacted their attitudes towards women in their lives, which reported to constantly feel more victimized.
Not only should parents be concerned for them, but everyone who desires a world in the future with a successful economy and working world should be involved in the topic.
Every day, people don’t consider the importance of creating their own opinions when coming to action. These actions are what make up each and every one of our communities. Listening to other opinions and viewpoints are also basic pillars of empathy and simple manners. As one person in the world, you can still overrule other opinions if you are true to yourself.
Ultimately, do you make sure to process things on your own or are you becoming a minion to modern-day brainwashing that will follow to the world’s societal collapse?
