The Last of Us is an exclusive HBO series that chronicles the events that take place in the hit survival-horror video game of the same name. Season 1 of the series is based on the first The Last of Us game and was released in 2023. It featured Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal, playing Ellie Williams and Joel Miller, who become the iconic enemies-to-family duo that fans know and love.
Season 1 takes place in 2033, after a mysterious fungus mutates and contaminates crops, then later is spread globally through flour and sugar, which are the basic ingredients in many products. The pandemic seems hopeless, with most of the world being filled with those infected by the fungus, who turn into mindless creatures who roam the earth seeking out healthy humans to infect and kill.
Joel, who lost his daughter on the first day of the outbreak, lives as a broken man who simply wants to survive. He is skilled with weapons and combat, so he is given the task of smuggling a young girl, Ellie, across borders for mysterious reasons. The two are stuck together for months, travelling the country, fighting infected and trying to survive. Their hatred somehow blooms into affection and an unlikely father-daughter relationship is born.
Season 2 is to be based on The Last of Us Part II and is set to be released on April 13th. The storyline remains unclear, as the big twist at the start of the second game is vaguely rumored to not be present in season 2 of the show, which would change the storyline completely. Fans everywhere are excited and on the edge of their seats to see Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, the stone-cold soldier who takes care of only herself and her close friends, while seeking out Joel for an unknown reason. Young Mazino and Isabela Merced play Jesse and Dina, who are Ellie’s closest allies and friends, while also being each other’s ex-lovers.
Fans everywhere are buzzing about the long-awaited upcoming release, which is sure to be a big hit and a much-discussed piece of media that will be an HBO staple for years to come.
