Coach Sean McMahon is the head coach of the boy’s lacrosse team at GHS, while also working as a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist at Fairfax County Public Schools.
Coach McMahon has been a volunteer coach since 2011 and began coaching lacrosse in 2017. This is his fourth season of GHS and he thoroughly enjoys coaching his team here.
The biggest challenge he associates with lacrosse is the fact that it is a relatively expensive sport for his players due to the various protective gear and equipment needed, but feels it is worth the trouble due to the positive community they build with one another.
Coach McMahon has many good memories from coaching lacrosse, including the year in which his team won 11 games, defeating a very strong team at the end of the season. Coach McMahon immensely enjoys coaching boy’s lacrosse at GHS and is grateful for his team, some of whom he has known for years.
“As cheesy as it sounds,” McMahon said, “coaching the kids who choose to play lacrosse is the best. I have coached many of our current players for at least four years and it’s been fun to watch them grow as lacrosse players but also as young men.”
