Being a student-athlete at Gainesville High School has shaped me to be who I am today, both on and off the field. It is a challenge balancing schoolwork, training, and practice, but I have learned to be resilient and responsible through it all. I push myself to be the best I can be both in the classroom and competing on the lacrosse field. I have learned how to manage my time from doing the thing I love. My entire life has led me up to this year and time.
Lacrosse has always been a priority for me, as my goal is to play at the college level. Over the years, the game has taught me the importance of teamwork and discipline. Having the opportunity to practice with the first ever lacrosse team at Gainesville High School in my 7th grade year was the greatest thing that’s happened to me. Coach Hoeg has made a huge impact on me throughout my playing time here. She has showed me how to stay determined, even when things don’t go the way you want them to. She is an amazing coach, and I am incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to learn and grow from her.
As I mentioned, being recruited to play lacrosse in college is something I have worked towards throughout my entire lacrosse career. As this fall is my recruiting year, all the work of time management and discipline comes into play now more than ever. As I visit schools, attend camps, and find the best college fit for me, I must also be sure to continue to improve my skills and strength. On top of all this, this is what most people consider the “most important” year of high school. All grades are important, but junior year means preparing for the PSAT and SAT, which are extremely important, along with my class grades. I will need to make sure to stay updated on all seven classes and the work assigned.
As I look ahead, I realize how fortunate I am to have a school, coaching staff both at Gainesville High and Capital Lacrosse, family, and friends as supportive as I do. Being a student–athlete is not always easy, but when you have a great support system and stay determined, you are capable of not only being one but doing anything. I am determined to continue being a student–athlete throughout college and have fun while doing it. This is just the beginning of mine and many others, and I am extremely grateful to have learned so many lessons along the way.
