As the end of the summer season rolls around and we make our way into the fall temperatures, our fall sports are rounding up to their midseason games. Better yet, for the first time ever, Gainesville High School’s brand-new flag football team is making waves across the county, starting their very first season with an impressive winning streak. Though we are only in our first year with a girls’ flag football team, the girls’ team is making winning numbers from week 1 into week 5.
Led by coaches Matt Patterson, Amir Solomon, and Chris Williams, this girl squad has quickly become a powerhouse. From the very first whistle, Gainesville has shown they are not here to play, but here to win.
The first couple weeks, Gainesville has outscored opponents by wide margins, showing off strong defense and great offense. In Week 1, Gainesville shout out Patriot High School with an amazing score of 7-0, followed by a close game against Potomac High School, 13-6, on September 17th. Since then, the team has continued to outscore opponents, showing that this new phenomenon is the team to beat.
With their next game coming up against none other than Gainesville High Schools’ strongest opponent, Battlefield High School, on October 7th at Battlefield, we are hopeful we can keep our winning streak and continue setting the tone for what looks to be an undefeated first season as well as a bright future!
