2026 WINTER OLYMPICS RECAP
This year featured the 2026 Winter Olympics, which only happen once every 4 years. This year was held in Italy. The event started on February 6th and ended on the 22nd. 2026 was historic and unforgettable with all its drama and interesting moments.
This year features new teams on the top, with Norway on the top with 41 medals in total (18 Gold, 12 Silver, 11 Bronze), United States of America in 2nd place with 33 medals in total (12 Gold, 12 Silver, 9 Bronze), and Netherlands in 3rd place with 20 points in total (10 Gold, 7 Silver, 3 Bronze). Honorable mentions to Italy with one of their best performances in history in 4th, Germany 5th, and France 6th.

There were some athletes that stood out more than others. While all athletes competing did an amazing job and performed very well, some had nights that could not go unrecognized.
Johannes Klaebo (NORWAY): Scored gold in all six of his Skiing events, becoming the first athlete in Winter Games history to win six golds at a single edition.
Diablo Von Allmen (SWITZERLAND): Scored 3 golds for skiing in a single Winter Games.
Alysa Liu (USA): After coming back from a 2-year break, she won gold in women’s figure skating, becoming the first American women in 24 years to claim the title.
Eileen Gu (CHINA): Cemented her status as the most decorated free-skier in Olympic history.
After looking at individual performances, lets look at the teams’ performances.
USA’s Hockey team put on an unbelievable performance. The USA won gold in both men’s and women’s ice hockey tournaments.
Sweden’s Curling team dominated. They won their second Olympic gold since 2018 (8 years). Which gave them their fourth women’s curling title.
Finland also put on a consistent performance in hockey. The men’s team secured bronze, marking their second consecutive Olympic medal in the event.
Italy put on their best performance in history. They scored many gold medals and plenty of silvers and bronzes to secure a 4th place in the Olympics.
With all the highlights, comes peoples bad moments. In the Skiing competition, USA’s Lindsay Vonn had a denigrating crash. Just seconds into the downhill, she had a big crash and broke her leg. This was just a week after she ruptured her ACL and still decided to Ski.
This may not be a bad moment but still sad, nonetheless. Dorothea Wiere from Italy announced her retirement. The 35-year-old competed in her concluding chapter in the Olympics, after being a medalist in the last 4 games.
The 2026 Olympics were not one to miss. With all the highlights, lowlights, and interesting moments, this one was historic. These games will be remembered world-wide for all the interesting and unbelievable moments.n
