Wednesday: One of the Best Series of 2022

The new Netflix series, Wednesday, was released on November 23rd, 2022. The series is a spectacular representation of the character Wednesday Addams and adds a new, modern twist to the 80-year-old series.

Wednesday (Jenny Ortega) went to a regular school, but after seeing her brother, Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), being shoved into a locker. Hijinks ensue and Wednesday gets expelled. Her parents, Morticia and Gomez Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán) make her go to Nevermore Academy, a school for “freaks” and the supernatural. Wednesday is not happy with this, but she finds a mystery unfolding in the town of Jericho and starts the search for answers.

Wednesday has been one of the best series I’ve seen in 2022, with amazing twists, amazing writing, and wonderful visuals. I loved the casting of Jenny Ortega.,

Ortega is known for her start on Disney but has been making the transition into a horror movie icon. With her commitment, talent, and skill, Ortega pulls the role off beautifully. One of my favorite scenes in the show was her dance scene in episode 4, “Woe What a Night” because of the dance she made herself up truly represents the character of Wednesday Addams.

Other than Ortega, the other actors were wonderful in their roles. Enid (Emma Myers) was a great inclusion in the cast, giving a different perspective from Wednesday and adding a sense of balance between Wednesday’s more gothic look. Another great actor was Christina Ricci as Ms. Thornhill, who played Wednesday Addams in the 90’s movie. Including her in the show really showed how much they stuck to the franchises’ past and Tim Burton, the director of the series’, attention to detail in all of his projects.

One of the best things about this show though was its writing and visuals. With the writing, you could never see what would happen next, allowing the show to have a sense of mystery and building curiosity inside the audience. The relationships between characters are written in a way that truly shows the characters’ feelings and emotions throughout the series. The visuals were also wonderful, building a dark atmosphere in

the show and sticking to the theme of Wednesday’s character comfortably. The work that went into creating the character Thing (Victor Dorabantu) pushes the visuals up to a whole new level.

Missing out on this show would be missing out on a spooky and scary time, so hop on Netflix and watch Wednesday today.
