On August 15th, 2023, Blue Beetle premiered in El Paso, Texas.
Blue Beetle takes place in the fictional city of Palmera and the story begins when the main character, Jaime Reyes, played by Xolo Maridueña, comes home from college to find out that his family is going to lose their house and that his father is sick.
Learning about his family’s situation, Reyes immediately starts looking for a job to support them. In the process, he meets Jenny Kord, played by Bruna Marquezine, and she ends up giving him an opportunity for a job, but his world ends up turning upside down.
Unfortunate events happen and Reyes ends up combining with alien technology called the “scarab”. This technology is wanted by the antagonist, Jennys aunt, Victoria Kord, played by Sarah Sarandon.
Reyes ends up being hunted down by Victoria’s soldiers, so to keep the scarab safe, Jenny teams up with Jaime.
Blue Beetle currently has a 3.9-star rating and a 78% rotten tomatoes rating. The story displays family struggles, finding yourself, and even the abuse of power. It is an engaging and eventful film that catches the viewer’s eyes and keeps them hooked.
