Have you heard of the multicultural club? If so, you have probably attended one of their multicultural night events in the past: A large celebration where people dress up, showcasing different cultures, with a wide display of food and various performances. However, did you know that, with the recent addition of lights to the amphitheater, the multicultural club has decided to host a new event, Multi Mingle? This smaller, more intimate version of multicultural night gives people a chance to meet new faces, try new foods, and learn about different cultures.
What do the different members think of Multicultural Club? Here’s a glimpse into the opinions of officers, subgroups, and members, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at how Multi Mingle came to be. We spoke with multicultural club officer Prisha Thapa: “We had to have multiple meetings in order to ensure everything went smoothly. Originally, we had this concept last year, but to get all the lights up, it took a while, so we wanted to wait and carefully plan out all the details in order to create an event that is both educational and fun for all the members.” (Prisha Thapa, 11)
When we talk about Multicultural Club, we can’t forget the different subgroups that make it up. BSU officer Amel Holland shared her thoughts on the first-ever Multi Mingle: “I love Multi Mingle, there are a lot of people and an amazing variety of food. It’s a lot of fun!” (Amel Holland, 12) Next, SHS President Chelsea Chavez spoke about the planning that went into the event: “It was a really fun experience so far, it was very fun. Most of the things that we have are things that we have used in the past for Hispanic Heritage Month, as it has just passed. It was a bit difficult to find volunteers for the event, but I think in the end we all came through.” (Chelsea Chavez 12) That’s a glimpse into Multi Mingle from the perspective of subgroup officers.
Lastly, what do regular members think? Mannat Dhanoa shared: “Multi Mingle is pretty fun so far, I like all the different presentations for the subgroups and the variety of food.”
All in all, Multi Mingle was a strong start to the school year. With live music, a wide variety of food, and vibrant performances, it left everyone excited for what’s next.
Looking ahead, Multicultural Club hopes to make future events even bigger and more engaging, bringing the school community closer together and celebrating the richness of every culture.
