The first Gainesville high School tailgate took place on September 9th. The tailgate allowed students to watch a great movie, get great food, and play loads of games.

Immediately after school, students gathered in the auditorium to watch Thor Ragnarok. Also, students were provided with an array of wonderful foods, like chips, hot dogs, and hamburgers. After that, students got to go to the turf to play games, make signs, and participate in the color run!

During the color run students dressed in all white and ran their way through other students and teachers throwing colored powder at them. And after that, students got to go and watch our Varsity team play against Battlefield in the first home game of the year. “Watching the game and dressing up for the game was definitely fun but I think the tailgate part of it was boring.” Josie Wilcoski, junior, said, “I felt like the games they had set up were only entertaining for like half of the people around, But the other half were walking around”

Even though the games weren’t fun for Wilcoski, he did seem to have fun at the football game, “The energy went down but I did have fun at the football game itself.” Said Wilcoski.

Ava Harvey, Junior, seemed to have a similar opinion, “I think there could be more games. At a certain time, they stopped letting students leave the field it was on. I think it could’ve been better, they also should’ve offered food for the kids who didn’t stay for the movie.” Harvey said.

Overall, the event was fun and entertaining. Students thought There should be more tailgates with better themes. Also, they thought there could’ve been food for students at just went to the tailgate, better music, and more games. Also, they thought it could’ve been a little more upbeat. Although this was only the first year, the planning can only go up from here!
