Top 5 Halloween Movies

Arisha Zahoor, Journalist

As we fall into October, Halloween is upon us. Just like how Christmas has its songs and the fourth of July has its parties, what would Halloween be without the movies to go along with it? Sure, we love carving pumpkins and eating candy apples, but there is nothing like a disturbed and psychotic flick to get you in the spooky Halloween spirit. These movies embody the fun we have during the 31 days of October, so turn the lights off, and let us count down the top 5 Halloween movies to binge this month.

5. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

A Nightmare on Elm Street is a classic horror movie starring Robert Englund[Freddy Kreuger], Heather Langenkamp[Nancy Thompson], and Johnny Depp[Glen Lantz]. The movie is centered around a monster, Freddy Krueger, who kills people in their dreams. It is sure to send chills down your spine.

4. IT (2017)

Starring Bill Skarsgård as the IT clown, Pennywise, this movie is about a clown that terrorizes a group of kids in Derry, Maine. It is their mission to stop the clown from killing any more. This is a petrifying and mysterious movie that is sure to make you shake in your boots.

3. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton & Henry Selick (Walt Disney Pictures)

If you have little siblings or cousins, this movie is perfect for you. The Nightmare Before Christmas follows Halloweentown’s pumpkin king, Jack Skellington. He accidentally comes across Christmastown, and realizes that it might be more fun to terrorize people in another town. What could go wrong? This Disney movie is perfect for an eerie mood that can be enjoyed with the whole family.

2. Bride of Chucky (1998)

This movie follows a child’s doll, Chucky and the doll’s girlfriend[Tiffany Valentine]. They have a Bonnie and Clyde kind of love, murdering people together. This movie has a lot of comical aspects, so it is perfect to watch with your friends for a sinister time.

1. Scream (1996)

Scream stars Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Deputy Dewie (David Arquette), Gale Weathers (Country Cox), Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), and Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore). It is the perfect slasher movie and my favorite movie to watch during October. The story follows a bunch of high schoolers who are being tormented and killed by a murderer who wears a Ghostface mask. Scream is an amazing fearsome movie to watch to get you on the edge of your seat.
