Roe v. Wade is a lawsuit that led to the Supreme Court ruling that abortions across the U.S. would be decriminalized. It was put into action in 1973. The U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022. This allows the legality of abortions to fall to the states.

“What if it was necessary to save the life of the mother? Or in cases of rape or incest? Or what if the pregnancy wasn’t viable?” Seattle woman, Lauryn Hall, said, after being harassed by crowds of protesters outside of an abortion clinic.

Some strongly believe that President Biden should take action against the overturning. “We’re calling on President Biden to continue to take steps to protect abortion nationally, and if he can’t do anything more from behind his desk he should get out into the streets.” Pro-choice protester, Helen Miller, said.

The opposing opinion is that the overruling of Roe v. Wade is a fundamental step toward correcting America. “This day belongs to the many people who have labored long and hard to make it happen—and to President Trump, who deserves our thanks for keeping a promise I did not think he would keep,” Religion professor, Matthew Lee Anderson, said.

Regardless of ideology, the overturning of Roe v. Wade will be one of the most important Supreme Court decisions of the decade. All that the public can do now is wait and watch the results of this decision unfold.
